It is certainly when you are most sick that you want to be in your own bed, at home, curled up hidden away from the world, with your only visit being to the doctor before the emerging happiness of health after the diagnosis and some good drugs.
Unfortunately, being in Berlin....I'm not anywhere near my home, my parents, or my doctor that can get me in right away.
Can you guess what this is leading up to?
That's right....ONE REALLY BAD CASE OF STREP THROAT.
I woke up this morning for school to find that the aches were worse and swallowing was virtually impossible. Sigrun was so wonderful that she sent me back to bed with tea and called the school for me. She also found out when I could go to the doctor. I examined by throat in the mirror and noticed some gross white lumps on the red part of my throat....after having strep so often I instantaneously recognized it.
At 1pm, I went to a lone practitioner who specializes in Ears, Nose and Throat. But I didn't understand that it wasn't an appointment. They only have two days that they take appointments, the rest of the time you wait. When you have to wait when you are in dire pain, it's the worse. I waited for two hours to see the doctor with my awesome host sister Luisa...mostly falling asleep in the waiting room.
Long story short: I got my antibiotics and I'm hopefully on the road to recovery...I finally had my first meal in about a day. I still haven't gone to my first class yet. Sigrun is making me stay at home another day which is a good idea, but I'm running out of my iTunes movies and shows to watch. :(
Another bright side though: I got my first letter today from my parents! I read it while going to the doctors. It really perked me up.

I've been craving sweet stuff since I've been sick, so I figured I would also include a picture of the hot chocolate and Apfelschorle I got after New Years.
Apfelschorle is like apple juice and sprite but not as sweet. Just tasty!
P.S. I was so happy to be able to talk to a lot of my friends today via Skype and Facebook. Thanks for the Get Well Wishes! It means a lot!
